Hydro Aluminium Metal (AM)  is a leading supplier of extrusion ingots, sheet ingots, foundry alloys, wire rods, and high-purity aluminium, with a global production network of around 5,000 employees. With primary metal production facilities in Europe, Canada, Australia, Brazil, and Qatar, and recycling facilities throughout Europe and the U.S., two-thirds of our primary aluminium production is based on renewable energy.

About the job and your team

We are seeking a skilled and analytical Risk Management Specialist to join our Risk Management & Hedging Operations department within Metal Sourcing & Trading (MST) at our Vækerø office in Oslo. This role emphasizes risk oversight, trade lifecycle management, and the implementation of an EUA (European Union Allowance) hedging portfolio to support our sustainability ambitions. As a Risk Management Specialist in MST, you will oversee risk control processes, manage the trade lifecycle for London Metal Exchange (LME) and EUA portfolios, and contribute to hedging strategies that align with Hydro’s net-zero goals. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust risk monitoring, compliance and reporting, delivering actionable insights Aluminium Metal’s LME and carbon market exposures.

 

MST is a business unit within AM and is responsible for the optimization of Hydro’s global standard ingot portfolio and the management of LME price risk exposure on behalf of the company. The MST business unit is located at the Vækerø office in Oslo.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and contribute to trade lifecycle management, including trade reconciliation, settlement processes and data integrity for LME and EUA transactions
  • Drive initiatives to enhance the efficiency of trade lifecycle management, streamlining processes and optimizing systems to reduce operational costs and improve accuracy
  • Implement and manage the EUA hedging portfolio to align with Hydro’s sustainability and net-zero objectives
  • Conduct risk assessments, stress testing, and scenario analysis to quantify and communicate portfolio exposures, including carbon-related risks
  • Collaborate with MST colleagues, compliance, finance, and other stakeholders to ensure robust decision-making and safeguard company interests
  • Contribute to the monthly hedge settlement process, ensuring precision across the trade lifecycle for LME and EUA portfolios
  • Enhance risk reporting tools and methodologies to deliver clear, actionable insights to senior management
  • Build and refine analytical tools (e.g., using Python, PowerBI, or machine learning) to streamline trade lifecycle management
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including those related to carbon markets and financial derivatives
  • Engage with external parties such as banks, clearing houses, and carbon market intermediaries
  • Support MST’s role as a center of excellence for hedging by delivering training on risk management and EUA strategies; some travel may be require

 

The exact tasks and responsibilities will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and background.

Your qualifications and skills

  • Master’s degree in finance, economics, business analytics or a related field
  • 0-5 years’ work experience
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint - experience with Python, R, PowerBI, GitHub, or Azure DevOps is a plus 
  • Interest in risk management and commodity markets is an advantage
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in risk assessment and modelling
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skill
  • Ability to work under pressure and make well-informed decisions
  • Good command of verbal and written English
