Senior Application Developer

Hydro Aluminium Metal a leading supplier of extrusion ingots, sheet ingots, foundry alloys, wire rods and high-purity aluminum with a global production network of around 5,000 employees. With primary metal production facilities in Europe, Canada, Australia, Brazil and Qatar, and recycling facilities throughout Europe and in the U.S., two-thirds of our primary aluminum production is based on renewable energy.

With more than 240 engineers, developers, scientists and other technical resources, Technology and Operational Support (TOS) is responsible for technology development for production of aluminium. Hydro, as a world leader within aluminium production technology, endlessly pushes the performance of the production towards world-leading low energy consumption and environmental footprint. The challenging work to develop, qualify and manage such technology is the responsibility of TOS.  
   
Digital Production Support department in TOS is driving the digital development together with the Operational Support departments. We focus on cross functional Product Teams, DevOps and agile methodology to deliver value from digital transformation in the production area. Together with our long proven APICS and HAL3000/4000 solutions we are now focusing on developing and deploying digital tools within maintenance as well as analytical platforms in cloud and IIoT solutions in the plants worldwide.     
 

We are expanding our product team for our MES system (APICS) and are looking for the right candidates to strengthen our product teams and are looking for senior developers. You will have a central role in development and implementations of the in-house developed MES system, as well as taking  part in existing technology development activities within our programs towards climate neutral production of aluminium.

To enjoy and thrive in this role we think you need a strong foundation and professional background and experience in software development. A creative mindset can be helpful to innovate and deliver efficient and user-friendly solutions. University degree (bachelor’s or master’s degree), from e.g. automation, IT, cybernetics, computer science, software engineering or similar. Relevant experience can compensate for formal education.

 

Technical skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Java-focused developer with experience in Spring Boot
  • Experience with one or more of the following technologies is highly desirable: Databases (relation and time series), Cloud services like Azure, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Additional knowledge in Angular, Python, C++, and Agile practices would be a bonus
  • Experience or interest for learning Domain Driven Design, Event Storming and other techniques for developing a user-relevant and loosely coupled system
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a full-stack or back-end developer

 

Personal skills: 

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Fluency in English, written and spoken. Professional working proficiency in Norwegian, German or Portuguese is an asset, but not a prerequisite

Openness, being collaborative and trustworthy, and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization is important to enjoy every day work. 

Additional Information

The Digital Production Support department is currently located in Årdal and Oslo. The team works closely with Aluminium Metal operation and business assets, with currently 30+ resources working with Digital product development and management. We have an ambition to grow further during 2024. Additionally, we have 20+ Long Term Hired consultants working along with internal employees in our product teams.
