EU Policy Assistant

Norsk Hydro is Europe’s largest aluminium producer, expanding in renewable energy, recycling, batteries and hydrogen

We are hiring an EU Policy Assistant to join our EU Affairs team in Brussels. 

The right candidate is an engaged, curious, self-starting and team-oriented person. Primary fields of work are EU public policy on climate, circular economy, energy, industry and trade. Key tasks and responsibilities 
Work together with Hydro colleagues on the preparation and execution of Hydro’s EU affairs agenda:

  • Monitoring and reporting of various policy and political developments.
  • Desk research on various policy issues.
  • Supporting preparation of events and meetings, including drafting of memos, presentations, and briefing materials for both internal and external meetings, including briefings to Hydro executives.
  • Continuous updates of positions and messaging bank of Hydro EU Affairs.
  • Attendance and reporting on external events.

The position reports to the Head of EU Affairs in the Group Communication and Public Affairs team.

Candidate profile

  • A master’s degree, preferably in European Studies or other related fields.
  • Good understanding of EU decision-making process.
  • An interest in key industrial policy fields such as energy and climate, circular economy, sustainability, investment support and trade. 
  • Some previous relevant work experience, for example internships. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English. Fluency in a Scandinavian language is a plus but not a requirement.
  • Perfect command of Microsoft Office package.
  • Reliability and ability to work independently, with attention to details.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Eager to learn and willing to take on new responsibilities.


  • A fixed-term employment contract (un contrat à durée déterminée)
  • Period of 6+6 months with a possibility of extension of up to 1 year.
