Job Summary:
The Metallurgical/Pyrometry Engineer applies technical knowledge related to metallurgical, process and manufacturing engineering to define the processes and techniques required for the development of products for customer specs. The role will analyze a wide variety of processes as it relates to metallurgy and pyrometry in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
Required Education/Experience:
- Industry Experience: Experience in the aerospace and/or automotive industry.
- Automation and Control Systems: Knowledge of automation and control systems used in extrusion lines to maintain precise temperature control.
- Automotive Standards: Familiarity with automotive industry standards and regulations, including safety and environmental requirements.
- Quality Control: Experience with quality control methods and standards specific to automotive manufacturing, including ISO/TS 16949.
- Process Auditing: Experience with NADCAP, IATF 16949, ISO 9001 audits.
- Project Management: Project management skills to oversee the implementation of new pyrometry systems and process improvements.
- CAD Software: Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software for designing and modifying extrusion dies and related equipment.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and maintenance.
- Innovation Trends: Awareness of the latest trends and innovations in aluminum extrusion and pyrometry technologies.
- Must possess the ability to interact at all levels within the organization.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred
Job Responsibilities:
- Aluminum Metallurgy: Strong knowledge of aluminum alloys, including casting, solutioning, and aging practices.
- Extrusion Process Expertise: In-depth understanding of aluminum extrusion, die design, extrusion parameters, and post-extrusion treatments.
- Heat Treatment & Pyrometry: Proficiency in thermal analysis, heat treatment processes, temperature measurement techniques, calibrations, and compliance management.
- Mechanical Testing & Data Analysis: Solid foundation in mechanical testing principles and the ability to analyze data to optimize processes and ensure material properties.
- Process Optimization: Skilled in improving efficiency, reducing waste, and enhancing product quality in manufacturing processes.
- Problem-Solving: Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to extrusion and heat treatment processes.
- Equipment & Spare Parts Coordination: Collaborate with maintenance to ensure spare parts for heat treatment equipment are properly documented and readily available.
