Calibration Technician

Job Summary: This position will perform test equipment calibrations and keep accurate records ensuring that the calibrations have traceability and are retained per industry standards.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform test equipment calibration tasks; perform initial calibration for the first of a family of electronic test equipment to establish acceptance standards to be followed in subsequent calibrations.
  • Ensure the calibrations and maintenance of field test instruments and calibration standards; coordinate vendor services when calibration activities are not completed onsite.
  • Initialize calibration record keeping activity for all test instruments, test sensors, and heat treatment processing equipment.
  • Ensure all calibration records have traceability to the National Institute of Standards and Technology and are retained per industry standards.
  • Be able to prepare survey racks and stands to perform Temperature Uniformity Surveys (TUS).
  • Manage the conducting of Temperature Uniformity Survey (TUS) testing by either scheduling an approved pyrometry testing vendor or potentially with onsite resources.
  • Be able to assess and disposition Temperature Uniformity Survey (TUS) reports for pass or fail status and resolving root causes for any failing conditions prior to the heat treatment furnaces being used for processing.
  • Upload the Temperature Uniformity Survey (TUS) results to the network system for proper retention.
  • Ensure a certification of calibration for each instrument and corresponding calibration sticker conforms to the requirements as stated by the industry standards

 

 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an Engineering Lab Technician or a Pyrometry/Calibration Technician role.
  • For sites that work to AIAG CQI-9, the SPA must have 5+ years of technical education and/or heat treatment experience combined.

 

Demonstrated Abilities:

  • Hands on mechanical experience.
  • A Degree from an accredited institution (AS, AS, BA, BS) or the equivalent professional certification (heat treatment certificate).
  • 5+ years of experience in an Engineering Test Lab Tech or Heat Treatment Tech role.
  • 3+ years of Pyrometry experience calibrating furnaces, ovens, freezers.
  • Ability to utilize power supplies, digital volt meters, data loggers, oscilloscopes, strip chart recorders, counters, and stepper motor controllers.
  • Knowledge of transducers, such torque transducers, encoders and thermocouples.
  • Ability to operate thermal cycling chambers.
  • Experience in the aerospace and/or automotive industry.
  • Familiar with ASTM B918, ASM 2750, and CQI-9 industry standards.
  • Experience with NADCAP, IATF 16949, ISO 9001 audits.
