HSE Manager

Hydro Global Business Services (GBS) is an organizational area that operates as an internal service provider for the Hydro group. Its ultimate purpose is to deliver relevant IT, financial and HR business services to all business areas within the company.

Job Location: Elkhart, IN

 

Summary:

This position is for an HSE Manager in the Midwest Region at our Elkhart, IN location. This position reports to the Plant Manager at the Elkhart facility.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to maintain compliance with all OSHA/EPA/NFPA/DOT and TS/OHSAS programs. Duties include developing technical policies, programs, and procedures to achieve regulatory compliance, providing technical assistance to facility managers, develop and maintain relationships with regulatory personnel, conduct internal audits, record keeping, industrial hygiene, risk assessment and hazard communications.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide a safe working environment for all employees; drive the safety culture within the organization
  • Responsible for identifying and assisting with correcting any unsafe conditions within the company. Conduct and manage risk assessments as necessary
  • Lead and implement corporate facility safety, health and environmental technical standards to be followed by plant personnel in compliance with local, state and federal regulations
  • Responsible for completion of accident investigations and correct preparation of serious incident reports
  • Interact with OSHA/EPA regarding formal complaints and inspections. Manage all HSE activities related to outside governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations
  • Determine the need for industrial hygiene monitoring (air, noise, heat stress, etc.) and coordinate the monitoring with the appropriate agency. Review the results of industrial hygiene sampling and compare to established regulatory limits {OSHA, American Congress of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL), and Short-Term Exposure Limits (STEL)}. Represent company at local, state and federal regulatory meetings as necessary
  • Conduct facility inspections to determine potential safety and health hazards. Recommend corrective/preventative measures and procedural developments
  • Facilitates and conducts accident investigations and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organizational use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations
  • Responsible for: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), SARA Title III reporting, Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA), Compliance and Community Right to Know Act
  • Strong problem-solving skills and follow up communication is key to the success of this role

 

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 7 - 10 years manufacturing experience and must be able to organize and manage multiple tasks. Formal Leadership training (Manage multiple objectives and deadlines)

  • Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization (verbal and written) with a high level of competence
  • Fluency in English; any other language is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and through teams, at all levels of the workforce; including providing expertise related to policies, procedures and services in HSE functional areas.
  • Effectively present information to management, public groups, and board of directors
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001
  • Must have passion around safety and must drive a culture where safety is the number one priority for all employees.
  • Proven ability to intervene, recognize, and eliminate hazards

 

Education and Work Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health Management from a four-year college or university with two years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; Professional certification preferred (e.g. CSP, CIH, CHMM)
