Process Engineer

Extruded Solutions is Hydro’s largest and most global business area. Our Business Area supplies aluminum profiles and profile-based solutions in various applications ranging from windows and furniture to cars and cruise ships. Within Extruded Solutions, we have business area staff functions based in Oslo, but we also have four core business units; Extrusion Europe, Extrusion North America, Building Systems and Precision Tubing.
 

 

Job Location: Gainesville, GA

 

Summary: Hydro Extrusion in Gainesville, GA seeks a Process Engineer to develop painting parameters for extrusion profiles.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop quality control processes for Paint / Finishing Department. 
  • Review line performance metrics.
  • Review quality / daily reports / scrap generated. Inspect material on quality hold.
  • Develop recipes for painted products. Develop hooking instruction for parts.
  • Review customer complaints and develop corrective actions. 
  • Responsible for resolving customer issues and assisting the manufacturing group with Quality related initiatives on the production floor.
  • Adhere to principles and guidelines of ISO. 
  • Provide same day initial response and 24-hour containment for any customer issues.
  • Coordinate 3rd party sorting, as necessary.
  • Participate in the APQP and PPAP activities to determine appropriate use of existing and new measurement systems during new tool or process design and startup.
  • Troubleshoot and assist shop personnel in resolving quality issues.
  • Facilitate nonconforming product containment activities and disposition of suspect product.
  • Assist with the verification of corrective action effectiveness.
  • Lead and coach team members in improvement activities i.e. 5S, MDI (Managing Daily Improvements), PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act),  Kaizen events and Development of Standardized Work, that supports the Genesis continuous improvement business system.
  • Coach team member in the appropriate use of problem solving techniques i.e. 5Whys and Cause and Effect Diagrams, for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action.
  • Drive corrective action activities resulting from the analysis.
  • Utilize current tracking tools and develop new tracking tools to allow the systems to be monitored and challenged.
  • Data collection spread sheets, A-3’s, tracking / measurement spreadsheet and calculator tools for quantifying improvement.
  • Measure parts, as needed, with various tools and/or gages to determine part conformity to the print.
  • Assist with new product launches and engineering changes, as necessary.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data. Create / Update Quality Job Documents (Standard Work Instructions, Inspection Sheets and Packing Instructions).
  • Internal Audits. 

 

Education and Job Requirements:

Must have a Bachelor’s in Engineering. Must have gained the following through experience or education:

  1. Using and implementing continuous improvements for problem solving including Ishikawa diagrams, 5 whys, and Pareto diagrams;
  2. Developing paint recipes for electrostatic spraying systems by setting unique parameters for each part/product;
  3. Visual Aids/Work Instructions/JSA creating, updating, and modifying diverse process;
  4. Analyzing new die drawings during quoting process;
  5. ISO Internal audit certification;
  6. Developing new and existing APQPs and PPAPs.
