Extrusion Supervisor

Summary: The Extrusion Supervisor is responsible for the day to day management of people in the department. The Extrusion Supervisor reports directly to the Extrusion Manager.



  • Responsible for extruding metal and supervising the activities of their respective crew to meet department requirements.
  • Ensures the Health and Safety objectives are met, proactively works to prevent potential safety concerns, communicates daily with crews any safety concerns
  • Uses discretionary judgment to quickly correct production deviations.
  • Inspects aluminum extrusions for compliance with specifications, communicates potential problems and determines acceptability.
  • Notifies maintenance when appropriate regarding department needs.
  • Strives to maximize production targets including cost and deadlines.
  • Maintain a quality product while minimizing production scrap and costs. Ensures that all required quality checks are performed and samples given to provide best quality to customers
  • Schedules and plans the work flow and work assignment of his/her crew, to ensure maximum utilization of employees, equipment and materials while meeting customer requirements.
  • Ensures and assists with training and development of employees as required.  
  • Works with appropriate supervisors to evaluate the performance of probationary hourly employees.
  • Contributes to employee records and appropriate statistical reports to be used to review quality, efficiency, scrap and overall crew performance.
  • Coach employees to secure mutually agreed upon goals (Team of 25 employees)
  • Able to lead and promote a team environment.
  • Monitors production reports. Communicates between shifts with other Supervisors.
  • Dispenses necessary equipment, tools and supplies to Extrusion Personnel.
  • Enforces Collective Agreement as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

  • Three years extrusion related experience
  • Experience in the use of technology to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent knowledge of extrusion process 
  • In depth knowledge of direct extrusion presses and related equipment
  • Able to work day, evening and night shifts
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs on occasional basis
  • Able to stand/walk up to 80% of shift while supervising two presses, and up to four presses as may be required on occasional basis
