HR Generalist

Job Summary: The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for providing support to various HR and HSE activities such as recruitment, training and performance management, employee relations, payroll support, benefit administration and other administrative duties. The HR Generalist will report directly to the Human Resources Manager.
Required Education/Experience:
- Up to 5 years of related generalist and safety experience in a unionized environment Required education, experience, and skills go here
- University degree or college diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
- CHRP designation
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of ESA and Human Rights, interpreting/implementing Collective Agreements
- Proven computer skills working with different software applications
- Comply with Health, Safety & Environmental requirements
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
- Able to communicate orally and in writing effectively with Managers, supervisors, peers and subordinates
- Experience with payroll and HRIS systems
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player
- Be available to come in occasionally on off-shifts to support ongoing business needs
Job Responsibilities(HR):
- Support Global Business Services (GBS) recruitment with preparation of job postings, screen resumes, interviewing and onboarding of new candidates
- Provides support for weekly and biweekly payroll administration of workforce
- Provides day to day HR support to employees and management regarding employee relations issues, employee communications and policy, interpretation of Collective Agreement
- Oversees benefits administration for hourly and salaried workforce
- Runs a weekly absence report and notifies department Supervisors and Managers of employee status as per Attendance Management Policy.
- Participates in HR investigations as required
- Accurately enters employee data into HRIS system
- Assist with completing and following up with third party disability management
- Assist with the yearly-performance appraisal program for hourly employees
- Regularly files confidential HR documents into employee files
- Come in on off-shifts (i.e. evening, nights, early morning) occasionally to support Company activities, training, investigations, etc…
- Coordinate and support corporate events (Take Your Kids to Work Day, Employee BBQs, etc.)
Job Responsibilities(Health & Safety):
- Identify and assist with correcting any unsafe conditions within the company.
- Immediately alert management to any serious safety issues and work to implement effective solutions.
- Identify and assist with correcting any unsafe conditions within the company.
- Conduct and support accident/incident investigations
- Support all company safety programs, policies, and procedures and ensure they are effectively communicated to all employees.
- Track department performance (incident investigations, WOC, safety video reviews) and evaluate effectiveness.
- Support WSIB claims, administration, follow-ups and facilitate Return to Work meetings.
- Maintain current and accurate information on the company’s Incident Management System website.
- Provide support for all environmental related recordkeeping and administration to include compliance with permits, operating conditions, sampling and regulatory standards.
- Maintain safety records, including training, evacuations, and accident and incident report.
- Conduct periodic facility inspections to determine potential safety, health and environmental hazards.
- Strong presence on the production floor. Observe and coach department managers and employees in hazard recognition identifying possible safety concerns/areas of improvement and improving safety culture.
- Administer company wide training to employees in accordance with applicable legal requirements, environmental regulations, and company standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
