Maintenance Mechanic

Industrial Maintenance Mechanic - Mississauga, ON – Canada.
The Maintenance Mechanic will report directly to the Maintenance Manager in Mississauga, ON. 



Key responsibilities


  • Effective troubleshooting and repair of extrusion equipment.
  • Carry out day to day preventative maintenance checks.
  • Complete assigned work orders.
  • Respond to equipment breakdown calls.
  • Continually update spare parts data.
  • Report in SCS/ Maintenance database completed work orders and equipment downtime.
  • Perform routine preventive and predictive maintenance on all equipment related to production operations and building systems.
  • Identify root and trend analysis, providing innovative solutions to resolve and remedy hydraulic and pneumatic issues.
  • Provide recommendations for continual improvements and maximize efficiencies.
  • Pass on technical/mechanical information to mechanical apprentice.
  • Learn extrusion processes from mechanic A/B.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, complying with the Company's Health & Safety guidelines.
  • New hires may be required to rotate shifts (Midnights, Afternoons and Day shift – the frequency of the rotation will be determined by the manager)
  • Able to do lifting.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Hourly Rate: $32.72 (Rate will be $1 less during probationary period – 900 hours worked).

Key requirements


Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within industrial environment.
  • Experience in the aluminium extrusion industry is an asset.


  • High school diploma or work experience equivalent.

Functional/Technical Knowledge

  • Must possess a valid Ontario Provincial Certificate of Qualifications as Maintenance Mechanic or Millwright.
  • Ability to read blueprints, hydraulic, pneumatic, plumbing and welding drawings.
  • Good troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to do basic welding and torching.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple daily assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of extrusion equipment would be a definite asset.


  • Ability to work with a team and independently.
  • Must read, write and speak English.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.



  • Understand the new hires may be required to rotate shifts (Midnights, Afternoons and Day shift – the frequency of the rotation will be determined by the manager)
  • We are a unionized company. According to the CBA, the candidates will be working in a steady shift. The shift will be determined based on seniority by the time they are hired. 
  • Depending on performance and experience – the candidate can gradually move up to a Maintenance Mechanic B = $34.61, and then the last step would be Maintenance Mechanic A = $37.64.
  • Benefits as per their Collective Agreement – Health, dental, out of country coverage, vision coverage.
  • Pension – with Canada Wide Industrial Pension Plan – employer and employee contributions (Employer - $1.42 per hour worked, Employee - $0.60 per hour worked).
  • Vacation – 2 weeks as per the Collective Agreement to start, after 5 years, increases to 3 weeks.
