Director, Safety Processes

The Director, Safety Processes role is designed to improve the functional deployment of health, safety and industrial hygiene across the Extrusion North America network and support the plants and regional staff in key areas of program development.  The Region HSE Managers will continue to functionally report to the VP, HSE.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Generates creative solutions that drive change in the ENA safety culture, focused on taking less risk.


  • Drives fatality prevention activity and programs alongside region and plant HSE teams as the highest priority.


  • Collaborates closely with the region and plant HSE teams in the assessment of injury and injury free incident cases to ensure proper classification, escalation processes, root cause analysis and determination of effective countermeasures including development of major incident read across processes.


  • Collaborates with group counterpart, the Director Environmental Engineering, on applicable projects.
  • Collaborates with the Business Systems Team to support the transition to ISO 45001 and provides guidance and direction in the design and deployment of the management system so that it is an effective and functional tool that drives the desired safety and compliance culture.
  • Collaborates and communicates with the Legal Team on regulatory and compliance issues where needed.
  • Collaborates with OpEx to conduct monthly safety forums with cast house managers to promote molten metal safety protocols.


  • Supports the VP, HSE in collaborating with business area counterparts in Hydro Extrusion.


  • Maintains close relationship with OSHA, NFPA and other US and Canadian health and safety regulatory agencies to stay aligned with changes in regulatory requirements.  Deploys requirements to the organization.
  • Oversees annual process of OSHA 300 Log documentation submittal and postings.


  • Oversees the deployment of ENA-wide compliance-based programs (i.e. combustible dust remediation, legionella water testing protocol development, etc.)


  • Develops, deploys and oversees a robust Industrial Hygiene program for ENA.


  • Conducts effective health and safety audits of the ENA facilities to support continuous improvement. Works with the sites to implement corrective actions resulting from audits (boots on the ground). Helps prepare plants and participates in corporate HSE audits.
  • Oversees deployment of WOC and Video Review standards for Quality, working with region resources.
  • Develops standards for improving the quality of JSA documentation, maintenance and training across the network.
  • Design and facilitate training at the site and above plant levels on all safety and health topics as needed.  Develops a comprehensive ENA health and safety training program in collaboration with region resources.
  • Primarily responsible for coordination of the annual HSE Day, working with the plants and Marketing & Communications Team.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong presentation skills and delivery of training to all levels of organization.
  • Proficiency - MS Office Suite
  • Demonstrated experience in changing organizational culture. 
  • Good investigatory and problem-solving capabilities, using established and effective methods. 


Education and Work Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 - 10 years experience as a health and safety professional in an industrial / manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental or an engineering discipline is preferred. 
  • 60% travel to plant locations.
