About the job
In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of payroll processes in Norway, ensuring seamless operations and adherence to local regulations and Hydro’s global framework.
Payroll will be part of Hydro’s Global Business Services (GBS) HR Norway, allowing you to collaborate with a large, internal HR community delivering services to all business areas within Hydro.
This high-impact role demands a strong background in payroll transformation, process optimization, and team leadership. The successful candidate will oversee the implementation and ongoing improvement of payroll processes, ensure full compliance with all payroll-related laws and regulations, and lead the recruitment and development of a high-performing payroll function.
Your responsibilities and deliveries
- Lead complex payroll system projects, ensuring seamless implementation, integration, and transition while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence/ employee satisfaction.
- In due time, recruit, train, and manage a payroll function, ensuring timely and accurate payments to employees while maintaining high standards of compliance and process efficiency.
- Provide training and guidance to managers and employees on payroll procedures, systems, and best practices, ensuring compliance and accuracy in all payroll activities.
- Stay up to date with local payroll laws and regulations, proactively ensuring that payroll processes remain compliant and adapting them to regulatory changes.
- Act as the subject matter expert (SME) on payroll-related matters, offering strategic guidance to senior leadership and ensuring payroll outputs meet business and compliance requirements.
- Oversee trade union agreements and special schemes.
- Ensure seamless integration between the Time & Attendance systems and Hydro’s payroll system.

Your qualifications and skills
- Extensive experience in payroll management, with a strong focus on compliance and process optimization. Prior exposure to global payroll and payroll system implementations can be advantageous.
- Proven experience leading payroll transitions from outsourced providers to in-house teams, preferably within large organizations.
- Strong leadership skills, with an interest in developing, and managing payroll teams.
- Proven ability to drive process improvements and manage complex payroll projects, leveraging strong analytical and problem-solving skills to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Deep knowledge of Norwegian payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements across regions.
- Prior experience with SAP based payroll solutions is an advantage.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively at all levels.
- Fluency in both English and Norwegian.

The position can be located at Hydro's head office in Vækerø, Oslo - or in other Hydro locations in Husnes, Høyanger, Karmøy, Sunndal or Årdal.
