Senior Technical Safety Engineer

The Hydro Havrand business unit is an industrial venture arm of Hydro, dedicated to supporting the decarbonization of Hydro’s aluminium operations. We are at the forefront of developing, owning, and operating green hydrogen assets and supporting the fuel switch from natural gas to clean, renewable hydrogen. And we are supporting other efforts to decarbonize and optimize energy in the aluminium value chain in Hydro.

 

We are currently engaged in multiple feasibility and concept studies in Norway, Europe and Americas, as well as preparations for the execution of hydrogen plants in Norway.

 

Hydro Havrand is now looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Technical Safety Engineer to join our team.

 

You who will take on a key role in ensuring safe design in projects, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations, implementation of best available technology to mitigate risks and hazards. You will be playing a crucial part in the development of sustainable and safe solutions.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • The Technical Safety Engineer’s job responsibilities includes: 
  • Review, prepare, and assure technical safety project documentation typically Safety philosophy  
  • Provide technical assurance and oversight of design aspects such as Fire & Gas detection, firefighting systems, area classification, vent design, etc. 
  • Verify, review and approve technical documentation from contractors, suppliers and partners. 
  • Providing discipline input to technical project documents like SoW, design basis 
  • General contractors, suppliers, and partners follow-up at project level 
  • Organize and participate in technical safety reviews such as HAZID, HAZOP, SIL verification, LOPA, and layout review 
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines for resolving technical matter 
  • Feed information to Havrand technical authorities to update Havrand specs with project learnings 
  • Being part of establishing Havrand’s governing document for safety 

 

Desired competencies to enjoy the role:  

Qualifications and experience: A master’s degree in engineering and 8 years in the field, especially in industries like oil & gas, metals, or chemicals. 

Knowledge of safety standards: Understanding international safety standards and codes is essential. 

Relevant specializations: If you have experience with Hydrogen, its derivatives, or combustion safety, that's a plus for us. Also, familiarity with the design and operation of industrial facilities will be beneficial. 

Communication and analytical skills: Proficiency in English is a must, and knowing Norwegian or Portuguese is a bonus. Your strong analytical abilities and technical skills are crucial for this role. 

Organized and adaptable: You should be able to prioritize tasks effectively across different projects. A proactive attitude and willingness to travel for short-term site visits or project work are also important.
