High Performance Press Operator

Summary:

            Operate a highly automated extrusion press-line. Lead team members, as well as report on efficiency of presses. Understanding of flow in the department. Including lot tickets, press schedules, tooling, log inventory, material handing at the saw, and through the age oven.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Safely set up and operate the extrusion press within the parameters given for each profile
  • Record data, such as time, number of billets used, and items processed.
  • Ensures equipment is operating correctly and communicates effectively if maintenance or engineering resources are needed to fix/improve operations.
  • Support scheduled Preventative Maintenance of the press line.
  • Assures die changes are conducted efficiently and uptime is optimized through preparedness and effective communication with other press crew TM’s.
  • Instructs and guides other TM’s with procedural information, quality alerts, or other critical information that may be related to the profile recipe.
  • Understand department flow; including lot tickets, press schedules, tooling, log inventory levels, material handing at the saw, and through the age oven.
  • Reviews press schedule and adheres to scheduled customer demand/needs.
  • Ensures proper/safe operation of equipment and communicates issues effectively to the proper resources and frontline leadership

 

Job Requirements:

  • Develops/trains press trainee on press equipment, operations, process, and systems to the extent that the trainee can self-operate.
  • Safely optimizes press uptime, scrap rates, productivity, and performance through adherence to policy, procedures, and systems such as run to recipe.
  • Read dimensional blueprints and use of measuring tools
  • Knowledge of department targets and goals such as PPH, recovery, uptime etc. and understanding of how each are driven.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate to area leadership and support teams

 

Education and Work Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Prior knowledge of extrusion department preferred
  • Basic reading and mathematics skills
  • Comfortable navigating an HMI / computer to operate the highly automated equipment

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Able to work in extreme heat or cold conditions. 
  • Ability to function successfully in a fast-paced, changing work environment. 
  • Able to learn and work with the extreme hazards of the handling of molten metal. 
  • Must have ability to communicate (both written & verbal) and work well with all employees at all levels, willingness to learn new processes and work with limited supervision

  • Lifting:            Must be able to lift to 50#
  • Standing:        Must be able to stand for extended periods of time (can accommodate)
  • Walking:         Required to perform job duties
