Summary: 

The purpose of the Mentor role is to help new employees absorb our organization's cultural and social norms, and lead new employees to fully embrace safe, quality, and compliant working practices and processes.  The Mentor’s goal is to demonstrate a high level of Care to improve employee retention while developing a safety, quality, compliance minded co-worker. The Mentor is staffed as a shop-floor employee role so that the employee engagement is coworker to coworker with common work perspectives.

 

 

Required Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.  
  • Minimum two (2) years of service.
  • 3 or more years of experience in a similar role is strongly preferred.

 

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications: 

  • Must be able to work cohesively in a team environment
  • Manufacturing experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience in a unionized environment is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and follow through to completion are required
  • Fluency in English. Fluency in other languages is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite, e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, OneDrive, OneNote.

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow and enforce all safety protocols - lead by example and instruct new hires to the same standards 
  • Along with HR and HSE, facilitate the formal new hire onboarding process 
  • Provide general or specific assistance to new employees so they gain an understanding of what they need to know to succeed in their job and role 
  • Assist or provide guidance in solving work-related or other challenges / problems that interfere with new hires success 
  • Serve as a positive role model, modeling desired behavior e.g. professionalism, positive can-do attitude, speaking up, being an initiator, patience, respectfulness and tolerance 
  • Develop a professional relationship with new hires that is maintained during the first 6 months of employment 
  • Lead or assist in training new hires to standard work, including maintaining accurate training matrixes and validation of training proficiency levels with any designated trainers 
  • Provide effective feedback communication with supervisors/managers on new hire performance 
  • After initial three (3) weeks employment, provide weekly performance review reports for the first 180 days of new hire employment 
  • Provide early detection of performance gaps and collaboration with supervisors/managers on effective corrective action for new hires
