Senior HR Generalist

Job Location: Portland, OR


Job Summary: Hydro Portland is recruiting for a seasoned Human Resources (HR) professional who demonstrates a strong customer service focus, leadership and a strong desire for upward mobility. The successful candidate will possess three-five years of direct working experience in multiple HR disciplines, i.e., labor & employee relations; staffing & recruiting, training & career development, etc. The hired candidate will be mentored as a potential successor into the HR Manager position for the plant.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Partners with HSE Team on Workers’ Compensation and return to work administration
  • Monitors short-term and long-term disability by employees and FMLA administration
  • Conducts internal fact-finding investigations
  • Responsible for plant wide training management.  Maintains training records, schedules required training, and presents training.
  • Recruiting, staffing and placement functions.  Leads internal bidding process for salaried and hourly positions; and supports recruiting externally as needed
  • Coordinates new employee orientation program and probationary process
  • Completes and submits Affirmative Action report annually; maintains records and reports pertaining to applicant flow procedures
  • Monitors and analyzes absenteeism and turnover rates and develops mitigation strategies.
  • Assists in the compliance with laws, regulations and company values, policies and procedures
  • Administers salary increases and promotions
  • Administers service award program
  • Occasionally fills-in as the Plant Human Resources Manager


Demonstrated Abilities:

  • Microsoft Office (strong proficiency with MS Excel preferred)
  • SharePoint
  • Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) experience
  • UKG payroll experience preferred
  • Manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
  • One to two years’ experience in a unionized environment is a plus.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory.  Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.  Spanish fluency is a plus.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of Human Resources experience is required
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred but a combination of experience and education will be considered
  • HRCI and/or SPHR certification is a plus.
