Payroll Specialist II

Job Summary:

The Payroll Specialist II will oversee and execute the day-to-day duties in processing the company's multi-state payroll for all hourly and salaried employees at two Hydro locations in Oregon, ensuring pay is processed timely, accurately, and in compliance with federal and state wage and hour regulations and company policies.  This role will follow our hybrid work policy of a minimum of 3 days in the plant per week (typically 2 days in Portland and 1 day in The Dalles each week) and is subject to change based on plant needs.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree (two-year program) or equivalent formal training program.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the payroll field required.
  • Knowledge of US payroll processes required.
  • Experience in MS Office Suite with an emphasis in Excel is required.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience in a union manufacturing operation preferred.
  • Broad familiarity with both State and Federal Wage and Hour Laws. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) a plus.
  • Must be well organized and possess the ability to work in a deadline focused environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive information is extremely important.
  • Working knowledge of UltiPro and Kronos, a plus.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Review all hourly weekly and all salaried non-exempt biweekly timecard data by generating various reports to ensure hours scheduled for payment fall within Company Policies.
  • Prior to actual paychecks being issued, review preview payroll registers and send approval to payroll vendor for final processing.
  • Monitor and maintain timekeeping system, ensuring pay rules are working as expected and requesting system configuration updates when necessary for CBA and policy changes.
  • Work with system technicians to resolve any outstanding issues with the system.
  • Thoroughly test all proposed system enhancements or pending changes to pay rules prior to final implementation.
  • Resolve employee issues or questions regarding hours/earnings/deductions on paychecks.
  • Assist employees with direct deposit and general deduction changes, updates system accordingly.
