Technical Services Manager

Summary: The Technical Services Manager must have a deep-rooted back ground and industrial experience engaged in Lean manufacturing with a focus on TPS (Toyota Production System) or ABS (Alcoa Business System) experience preferred. The best candidate will be tenacious at identifying waste in the process and will have proficiencies in coaching management and operators in the culture and mindset of Lean.


The candidate must have demonstrated experience in project management and be able to develop and drive cultural change at the core.


This individual will supervise employees who install, maintain, and repair industrial processing and manufacturing equipment. This position will coordinate with manufacturing personnel and management to ensure that manufacturing equipment is maintained and in ready status. The successful candidate will ensure that machine and equipment metrics achieve a high level of performance, communicate readiness, drive execution of repair and engage a highly skilled team to customer satisfaction.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the growth and development of site leaders in the areas of EBS (5S, MDI, A3, VSM, CRI).
  • Oversees the EBS System at the plant and ensures consistent and effective levels of deployment in connection with standardized methods established by Hydro ENA and Hydro Extrusions.
  • Effectively utilizes SPC (Statistical Process Control) to establish in control and capable processes prior to making improvement-based changes.
  • Works closely with the local finance group in justification analysis / ROI development for EBS projects tied to operating efficiency improvement.  This includes the justification support for CapEx requirements.  Ensures compliance to standards for calculation of savings (rates, recovery, downtime, etc).
  • Lead a team of skilled technicians and electricians to drive machine and equipment performance.
  • Support a Predictive and Preventive Maintenance Program for machine tools and equipment.
  • Ensure the implementation and accuracy of the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS). 


Job Requirements:

  • Formal problem-solving training
  • Formal leadership training a must (Manage multiple objectives and deadlines)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Professionalism and good organizational skills
  • Manufacturing experience and must be able to organize and manage multiple tasks
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing production planning
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems
  • Aluminum Extrusion Production and Quality Systems
  • Strong computer skills. Use of multiple operating business systems; proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint



Education and Work Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
  • Operations Management, or equivalent technical degree.
  • Preferred post graduate degree in Engineering (MSE) or MBA.
  • Required training / certification in Lean Manufacturing,
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience managing CI functions in heavy manufacturing industry.
  • Preferred engineering disciplines include metallurgical, materials science, mechanical or industrial.
  • The Toyota Production System, or The Alcoa Business System required. Six Sigma training is optional but preferred as well. Deep level of understanding.
