Process Engineer
Job Location: Cassopolis, MI
Hydro Aluminum Metal is a leading supplier of extrusion ingots, sheet ingots, foundry alloys, wire rods and high-purity aluminum with a global production network of around 5,000 employees. With primary metal production facilities in Europe, Canada, Australia, Brazil and Qatar, and recycling facilities throughout Europe and in the U.S., two-thirds of our primary aluminum production is based on renewable energy. Hydro’s Business Unit Recycling is currently running 5 extrusion ingot cast houses in Europe and 2 in the United States. With new construction of our third Recycling Plant in the US brings advanced technology to our Cassopolis MI facility with startup in fall of 2023. We are currently building the Teams that will lead this new location, including the Process Engineer position.
The Process Engineer’s responsibility is to identify, develop and implement initiatives to improve manufacturing processes and procedures, generating significant improvements in efficiencies, safety, quality, and overall cost-savings.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Optimize and maintain the system for the five AMBS (Aluminum Manufacturing Business System) principles: standardized work processes; customer/ supplier relationships; optimized flow, dedicated teams, and visible leadership.
- Collect, analyze and model information from process and machine capability studies and validate processes.
- Analyze and identify opportunities to reduce process variation, improve process capabilities and optimize process performance.
- Establish, write and train to designated procedures and work instructions in accordance with established AMBS standards and requirements. Conduct audits of procedures to ensure compliance.
- Provide data for qualification of new processes or commissioning of new equipment.
- Engage employees in continuous improvement activities; train and coach them to desired standard.
- Serve as primary resource to department supervisors for problem identification, resolution, and continuous improvement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four-year degree in a technical discipline such as engineering is strongly preferred. In certain circumstances, a combination of education and experience can be substituted.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in process, manufacturing or industrial engineering is required.
- Knowledge of the casting process and molten metal background is desirable.
- Extensive knowledge of ASTM standards is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of continuous improvement tools such as SPC, and statistical methods is essential.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
- Ability to speak effectively in front of employees and stakeholders of the organization.
- Must be able to work cohesively in a team environment.
- Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office tools.
- Prior knowledge of Microsoft Power BI, SAP is strongly preferred.
TRAVEL:
Travel is less than 10% (i.e. visits to other Hydro plants or corporate office for meetings and/or training), except for the period ahead of the start-up where external training and visits at suppliers/customers premises will be required.
