Payroll Accountant

Extruded Solutions is Hydro’s largest and most global business area. Our Business Area supplies aluminum profiles and profile-based solutions in various applications ranging from windows and furniture to cars and cruise ships. Within Extruded Solutions, we have business area staff functions based in Oslo, but we also have four core business units; Extrusion Europe, Extrusion North America, Building Systems and Precision Tubing.

Summary: The Plant Accountant/Payroll administrator is responsible for performing independently all payroll duties and general accounting duties related to payroll, including general ledger account maintenance and reconciliation. The position works closely with the HR department to prepare and execute the bi-weekly payroll process accurately and in a timely manner, and to complete all internal and external reporting in relation to payroll and expat functions. This role also works with the Finance Manger to complete sales & use tax, Inventory movements and receiving reports, general GL maintenance/BS account reconciliation, and write/enter standard and adjusting Journal Entries.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the accuracy of payroll data against documentation provided.
  • Maintain data and process monthly pension payments to Adrian and Holland retirees.
  • Process payroll bi-weekly thru ADP and ensure the system is operating effectively and accurately.
  • Transmit medical HSA & HRA funding after bi-weekly payroll is processed.
  • Maintain relocation and contractual related balances paid through the payroll system.
  • Ensure accuracy of payroll processing of benefits-in-kind and employee expenses for Expats.
  • Work closely with auditors to accurately report Rockledge monthly compensation for Expats.
  • Perform quarterly and annual audits of ADP reports to ensure accurate production of W2 forms.   Prepare any necessary requests for generation of W2-C forms.
  • Create and post all payroll journal entries. 
  • Reconcile payroll and benefit related general ledger, as well as other Balance Sheet accounts monthly and research variances for clearing.
  • Record data and generate reports relating to periodic insurance deductions, absenteeism, taxes and similar data relating to payroll accounting.
  • Compile, prepare, analyze, and generate employee data for the preparation of company pension contribution. Issue pension package to agent for processing, communicate changes and additions with representative.
  • Audit company pension contributions for appropriate forfeitures and loan balance handling.
  • Compile, prepare and generate intercompany invoices for monthly billing.
  • Work with tax department to ensure information is obtained from revenue authorities to accurately and timely update the ADP system for jurisdictional tax payments.
  • Prepare and transmit sales and use tax returns and payments.
  • Communicate garnishment information to required outside parties, employees and HR department, including calculations and notifications of payroll adjustments.
  • Assist in month end reporting
  • Receive, code, generate, and transmit invoices received at the Rockledge plant to the financial shared services department via IMR digital processing for payment.
  • Provide account coding for invoices requested by the shared services department.
  • Act as a liaison between the shared services department, plant associates and vendors to assist in expediting payment of invoices.
  • Prepare data and run aged trial balance reports for files and verify against general ledger.     
  • Assist Quality department with customer credits in QSI system.
  • Assist with annual Business Plan generation.
  • Assist with month-end close by maintaining the GL, posting recurring JE’s, writing and posting correcting JE’s, and researching discrepancies
  • Assist with other year end accounting routines including the preparation and mailing of 1099 earnings statements for independent contractors and auto mileage usage reports as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to maintain work flow or respond to emergency conditions.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Requires the ability to perform all duties to operate all equipment, all within limitation of the standard methods and procedures and in accordance with strict adherence to HSE, quality and productivity requirements.




Job Requirements:


  • ADP Workforce platform certification a plus.
  • Dynamics AX or SAP experience a strong plus.
  • Microsoft Suite experience a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.
  • Experience in managing personnel and mentoring team members.


Education and Work Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred, but not a requirement.
  • 3-5 years in a manufacturing environment performing payroll and general accounting activities.
  • Excellent analytical and independent decision-making skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Works well in teams and independently.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Flexible and able to work with others within and outside of the organization in a wide variety of circumstances.
  • Advanced in MS Excel and Data base management such as MS Access.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Knowledge of process related standards.
