Hydro Aluminium Metal a leading supplier of extrusion ingots, sheet ingots, foundry alloys, wire rods and high-purity aluminum with a global production network of around 5,000 employees. With primary metal production facilities in Europe, Canada, Australia, Brazil and Qatar, and recycling facilities throughout Europe and in the U.S., two-thirds of our primary aluminum production is based on renewable energy.

Job Summary:

This position will administer, communicate and implement all employee benefit programs for Hydro Aluminum Metals USA, LLC., in compliance with federal and state laws, including reporting and annual notice requirements. This role will be responsible for enhancing the overall employee experience by effectively managing health and welfare benefits, voluntary benefits, 401 (k) administration, and leave and disability programs. This position is onsite and will work out of Hydro’s Rosemont, IL office; a home location near one of the other Hydro Recycling plants can be discussed.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human resources, business or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of five years benefit administration experience.
  • Professional certification such as SHRM-CP, PHR, and/ or CEBS is desirable.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proficiency in HRIS & Payroll systems; experience with ADP and SAP SuccessFactors is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Customer- oriented and strong problem-solving skills/analysis
  • Discrete, able to handle confidential and proprietary information appropriately.  High level of integrity.

Management of Benefit Plans Responsibilities:

  • SPA for administration of employee benefits (health, life, disability, 401(k), etc.) for the Business Unit of about 200 employees. 
  • Serve as benefits compliance official.  Ensure compliance with all pertinent state and federal regulations affecting employee benefit programs including FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ERSIA and HIPAA programs. 
  • Perform annual 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan audit process, Reconciliation of 401k funding & Payroll, Preparation of Committee Meetings (Savings & Investment) & Maintaining employee 401k enrollments and education services.
  • Provide guidance to local HR, location management and employees as required to address employee benefit plan issues and promote plan utilization.
  • Maintain and audit accurate employee benefit information.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement approved new or modified plans and employee benefit policies.
  • Manage providers, Third Party Administrators, vendors, consultants, etc. as required.  Serve as primary liaison with same to conduct problem resolution, plan change communication, plan eligibility audits, and to ensure compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment with third party administrators and local HR representatives. 
  • Survey industry and/or geographic areas to determine the Business Unit’s competitive position in employee benefits. Conduct vendor analysis and coordinate request for proposal processes (RFP’s) as required.
  • Review billings from insurance providers for accuracy and resolve discrepancies with carriers, payroll, and the company.  Coordinate issues through the company insurance Broker.
  • Coordinate 5500 Reporting (Benefits & 401k) process and other required annual reporting.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of data in compliance with GDPR. 
  • Coordinate with international HR specialists to administer expatriate assignments. 
  • Position will work closely with finance functions to optimize cost-effectiveness of plan specifics. 
  • Position will liaise closely with payroll specialist and may act as back up for the payroll function. 
     

HRIS Responsibilities:

  • Provide security access for HR Managers to benefit service portals.
  • In coordination with payroll and finance functions, integrate benefit vendor platforms and billings into Hydro’s employee system of record.
  • Support local HR by setting up new hires in system of record and benefit platforms, process and audit qualified life events in a timely manner.
  • Liaison between benefits vendors, service providers and recordkeepers to ensure accurate data exchange between Hydro employee data systems, payroll and external administrator systems.  
  • Light travel, including very occasional international travel, is expected for this position. Travel may be required to attend training and conferences and to support Hydro plants within the role’s span of control.
