Site Manager, Environmental Remediation

Summary:  This position reports to the Vice President – HSE, Quality & EBS.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • The initial project involves the coordination of a major environmental remediation in northern Ohio (on Lake Erie).  Completion (i.e. remediation to support a successful sale or the obtaining of a ‘no further action’ status) is multiple years away.  During the project or after completion the position could expand into greater responsibility within the Hydro HSE organization, including oversight for remediation of additional sites. The position is permanent.
  • Oversees all environmental compliance activities including submittal of all required environmental reporting to local, state and federal environmental agencies.
  • Oversees and fully manages the day-to-day activity of remediation project. This includes reviews of daily work plans and ongoing management of associated health and safety plans (HASP).
  • Coordinate the work of the on-site contractors conducting various aspects of remediation activity and collaborate with internal Hydro resources in making decisions and recommendations about the site.
  • Works closely with the local, state and federal level regulatory agencies to ensure compliance to permitting requirements.  Pursues permit renewal or modifications as needed.
  • Works closely with the Hydro Global Business Services Financial and Legal Teams on monthly cost analysis and evaluation of spending and any legal matters that arise through the project lifecycle.
  • Develops short- and long-term strategic plans to increase the rate of site closure / sale at the lowest cost possible, evaluating all options including taking lead on budgetary development.

 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Must possess the skill set to manage environmental projects, programs and make presentations. 
  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Good knowledge of US environmental laws (CAA, RCRA, CWA, SDWA, CERCLA, TSCA, DOT) required.  Understanding of Canadian law is a positive.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate on all levels.  
  • OHSAS 18001 / ISO 14001 experience required. 
  • PE, CHMM or CEM plus but not required. 
  • Must be willing to travel up to 70%.

 

 

Education and Work Requirements:

  • BS in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field / experience.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience with heavy focus on US governmental / EPA regulatory requirements and permitting.
  • Industrial safety and health experience a plus.
