Reliability Engineer

Summary: This position is responsible to provide a strategic engineering focus on equipment to minimize the total life cycle cost to the business by assessing the capabilities of the equipment, identifying potential failure modes, and identifying and implementing optimal equipment maintenance strategies.  This includes activities used to select and apply the most appropriate maintenance practices by applying reliability tools and processes, so that the equipment and processes continue to deliver their intended capabilities in the safest and most cost-effective manner for the business. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports the operation’s HSE initiatives and communicates openly with contractors, vendors, and in-house personnel on compliance with Hydro HSE policy, procedures and standards.
  • Define equipment criticality using various data sets including but not limited to production data, CMMS data, cost of failures data, equipment history data, etc.….
  • Perform failure mode and reliability engineering analysis to develop strategies to eliminate repetitive and major failures using various reliability-based tools including but not limited to RCA, and FMEA to include developing and implementing specific recommendations
  • Defines, develops, and optimizes Preventive (PM) & Predictive (PdM) maintenance strategies / technologies / quality / frequency to provide the most cost-effective outcome for the business.
  • Participates with Continuous Reliability Teams
  • Incorporates appropriate condition monitoring such as the study of corrosion, vibration, fatigue, wear, and erosion rates in planned and predictive activities to maximize equipment reliability.
  • Participates in the development of (and reviews) the annual maintenance plan, providing reliability and equipment strategy input, and support for the overall delivery in accordance with the plan.
  • Participates in development/analysis of conceptual solutions and ensures that equipment reliability is incorporated into appropriate capital and expense projects.
  • Initiates/participates in development of engineering solutions to eliminate/mitigate equipment failure modes.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with a wide range of personnel through
  • identifying knowledge gaps and acts as a translator/trainer with both operations and maintenance.
  • Plays an active role in fostering change and innovation to support the achievement of the facilities Operational Excellence (OPEX) equipment downtime/uptime targets.

  

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a reliability or engineering field. 
  • Experience in the aluminum extrusion manufacturing or similar processing industry desirable.
  • Understanding and application of engineering standards and equipment regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of advanced reliability engineering tools, techniques, and processes
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Sound business and customer focus and perspective.
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills and techniques.
  • Highly developed Predictive (PdM) Maintenance skills and techniques.

 

Education and Work Requirements:

  • Engineering Degree (mechanical or electrical typical) required. 
  • Post graduate reliability or business studies favorable.
