Software Asset Management Analyst

Role purpose

 

The Software Asset Management Analyst is responsible for managing and maintaining software asset management tools to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of software assets. This role involves overseeing software inventory, ensuring compliance with licensing agreements, and identifying opportunities for cost savings and optimization. The SAM Tool Administrator collaborates with IT, procurement, and finance teams, prepares for software audits, and provides training on SAM tools and processes. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in SAM tools are essential for this position.

You will work on

 

  • Manage SAM Tools: Administer and maintain software asset management tools to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of software assets
  • Software Inventory: Oversee the software inventory process, ensuring all software assets are accurately recorded and maintained
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with software licensing agreements and company policies
  • Optimization: Identify opportunities for cost savings and optimization of software usage
  • Reporting: Generate and analyze reports on software usage, compliance, and optimization 
  • Collaboration: Work closely with IT, procurement, and finance teams to manage software assets effectively 
  • Audits: Prepare for and support internal and external software audits
  • Training: Provide training and support to staff on SAM tools and processes
  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement and stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices for software lifecycle and SAM management

Qualifications and specific skills

 

  • 3+ years in Software Asset Management or related role
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Good level of understanding of IT governance, SAM frameworks, SW Licensing and compliance
  • Deep knowledge of IT asset and software asset management best practices
  • Knowledge of ITIL, ITAM, SAM or similar IT service management frameworks
  • Proficiency in SAM tools (e.g., Flexera, ServiceNow, Snow Software)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

Expected skills and competencies

 

  • Functional Knowledge: IT Asset Management, CMDB
  • Technical knowledge: Knowledge of Service Management tools (e.g. ServiceNow, CMDB)
  • Project management: Basic level
  • Change management: Standard level
  • Customer: Standard expectation for Customer management
  • Vendor
