JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:  

 

Responsibility to be accountable for all events that may occur during his shift.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Responsible to train people on his crew of the proper way to perform tasks and to share knowledge with crew member. 

  • To act on shift supervisor’s behalf in the absence of any salaried shift supervisor or Dept Mgr 

  • Understand casting process and safely operate the casting pit. 

  • Operate lathe and spectrometer with the ability to accurately calculate alloy additions to furnaces. 

  • Enter test results from sample analysis into log book and enter results into LAPS data entry. 

  • Accurately record entries into Oracle and find and fix entries that are incorrect. 

  • Fill out furnace charge sheets and review sheets, ensuring SMACT program is being adhered to accurately update daily production board. 

  • Maintain daily activity and inventories of log for casting and extrusion departments. 

  • Communicate with maintenance department and submit work orders for items needing to be addressed.  

  • Accurately receive and inspect incoming scrap, log and prime. 

  • Inspect quality of scrap, prime, and purchased log and ensure they are within Sapa standards. 

  • Verify daily checklists are completed and turned in on a shift basis. 

  • Hold tool box meetings with crew on any new issues or information needed for crews. 

  • Efficient completion of work assigned to his crew. 

  • Time management on breakdowns or special objectives (pit cleanings, ect;) to be done in a timely matter to get maximum production and using help chain to minimize down time as much as possible. 

  • Review work schedule and production requirements to determine what can be accomplished during your shift for that operating day\night. 

  • Insure time management for daily production or other assigned tasks 

  • Provide performance feedback on his crew to shift supervisor doing reviews 

  • Same responsibilities as the shift supervisor for authority purpose, except for the following: 

  • Disciplining employees 
  • Calling in overtime unless OK’d by shift supervisor or dept mgr 

  • Administering pay 

  • Writing or conducting performance reviews 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

  • Operate mobile equipment. 

  • Participate in Oracle process  

  • Accurately calculate furnace charges (PU scrap, in-house scrap, and alloys) and direct team members to safely and efficiently charge furnaces. 

  • Sign off all required JSPs for department and any other required classroom training. 

 

EDUCATION:  

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent  

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Able to work in extreme heat or cold conditions. 

  • Ability to function successfully in a fast-paced, changing work environment. 

  • Able to learn and work with the extreme hazards of the handling of molten metal. 

  • Must have ability to communicate (both written & verbal) and work well with all employees at all levels, willingness to learn new processes and work with limited supervision 

  • May be instances of high CO2 in area  

  • Employee must be able to have good vision or corrective lens to see visual defects.
