PLC Technician

Job Summary:
Apply PLC and technical knowledge to install, repair, write, maintain and troubleshoot a variety of electrical and electronic equipment and controls related to production and building equipment, including motors, servos, steppers, relays, circuit breakers, pic’s, proximity sensors, machine and process controls, circuits, alarms and communication systems.
Education and Experience Requirements
- 2-year Technical Degree or Certification in Electronics or Automation/Programming functions.
- Ability to draw out PLC/Electrical circuits.
- Knowledge of industrial electrical, including advanced electrical (three phase 460 volt and higher) design, sizing of components and installations, etc.
- Knowledge of electrical systems including motors, air compressors, pumps, AC, DC, drive troubleshooting, etc.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- Maintain PLC systems by ensuring backups of all programs are available and spare parts are available for the existing systems.
- Extensive experience in troubleshooting, interpreting, modifying, and programming PLCs.
- Working knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs.
- Experience using Control logic and ladder logic.
Job Responsibilities:
- Completes projects with guidance from PLC and Senior PLC Technicians, showing a proactive attitude to design and installations.
- Troubleshoots electrical devices in operation. Dismantles and examines devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, repairs or replaces defective parts.
- Entry level experience in troubleshooting, interpreting, modifying and programming PLCs.
- Troubleshoots, designs, upgrades and installs electrical equipment, circuits, and systems.
- Troubleshoots, repairs/replace electrical components at the component level.
- Improves reliability and uptime of all equipment. Takes a proactive approach to equipment issues with a preventive maintenance mentality.
- Research supplies, parts, and machines needed to complete work orders.
- Assists in organizing and maintaining an accurate inventory of parts.
- Performs and documents work orders and preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Documents work completed. Contributes to upkeep and updating of required paperwork such as records, maintenance logs, documents, manuals, drawings, PM logs, etc.Work with Senior PLC Technician to maintain PLC systems by ensuring backups of all programs are available and spare parts are available for the existing systems.
- Work with maintenance technicians to troubleshoot instrument and PLC problems.
- Work with engineering personnel in determining routine changes to programming on the PLCs and HMIs.
- Support projects involving PLCs by overseeing contractors.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Strong organization skills and self-starter motivation. Prioritization skills in alignment with Plant priorities. Continuous Improvement mindset and results oriented.
- Must have mathematical skill to add, subtract, multiply, and divide and the ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.)
- Must have ability to reason and address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
