What you will be doing

Position Summary

The HSE Intern will support the Health, Safety & Environmental team in a manufacturing setting. This role provides hands-on experience with OSHA compliance, hazardous material management, and safety programs within an active production environment. The intern will assist with inspections, chemical tracking, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives to help maintain a safe and compliant workplace.

 

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Manufacturing Support

  • Assist with manufacturing floor safety inspections, audits, and housekeeping reviews
  • Participate in job safety analyses (JSAs), hazard identification, and risk assessments
  • Support incident reporting, investigations, and corrective action tracking
  • Assist with PPE assessments and compliance verification
  • Attend and support site safety meetings and toolbox talks
  • Assist in maintaining chemical inventories, including chemical labeling and storage compliance
  • Support Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management and database updates
  • Maintain HSE records, logs, and training documentation
  • Collect, track, and analyze safety and environmental metrics
  • Support continuous improvement and safety culture initiatives

 

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and industrial processes
  • Ability to walk production areas and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, etc.)
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs

What will make you successful?

Required:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science or Chemical Engineering
  • Strong interest in manufacturing safety, chemical management, and regulatory compliance
  • Basic understanding of OSHA regulations, hazard communication (HazCom), and chemical safety preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
  • Must be able to work 32 hours per week for the duration of the summer internship
