Job Summary:
The Quality Engineering function is a core driver of innovation within the Quality organization. Individuals in this role must possess strong engineering aptitude and a solid understanding of part approval and qualification processes. They are expected to identify inefficiencies, work hands‑on on the shop floor, and collaborate closely with operators to solve problems. Quality Engineers in this role must be proficient in analyzing and interpreting large data sets and be able to communicate effectively with production personnel in a way that aligns with an operator mindset. Strong skills in training, coaching, and knowledge transfer are essential to success in this position.
What you will be doing
- Daily Shop Floor Problem Solving: Works extensively on the shop floor alongside operators, embedding quality thinking and local problem solving to support fostering a Quality culture.
- Identifies Internal Issues: Through Process Audits to scour the site for visible issues in the product and process. Coordinates immediate resolution.
- Leads Improvement Teams: Leads and supports cross‑functional improvement initiatives focused on product and process quality, partnering with operations and continuous improvement resources.
- Trains / Coaches Shop Floor Personnel: Supports the knowledge transfer between departments through daily teaching and coaching on the shop floor, imparting technical process knowledge and observation-based problem-solving strategies.
- Becomes Technical Process Expert: Becomes a subject matter expert in area of coverage.
- Acts as a Leader: Acts as a quality leader within the plant by influencing behaviors, reinforcing standards, and driving sustainable improvements across departments.
- Supports Customer Claim Resolution: Supports internal investigation and resolution of customer claims and complaints in collaboration with field, sales, or customer support teams.
- Manages / Mitigates Process Variation: Develops SPC tools and works to manage the output response to special cause variation. Mitigates deviations in R2R.
What will make you successful?
Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Metallurgy or Engineering-related degree or relevant work experience.
- Must be able to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
- Experience with part approval and product or process qualification activities (e.g., first article inspections, part submission documentation, or equivalent).
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Formal training in structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., A3, DMAIC, 8D).
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally with operators, technicians, and supervisors to resolve quality issues in real time.
- Experience supporting quality engineering activities in manufacturing environments, including metals processing or other industrial production operations.
