Job Summary:
The HSE Coordinator will work alongside the rest of HSE staff to prepare and provide safety training, conduct audits and make HSE recommendations to ensure all team members are working in a safe environment promoting health and safety for all individuals. The HSE Coordinator will divide their time between the company's two operational sites: the Extrusion Facility in Mississauga and the Remelting Facility in North York. This position reports directly to the Regional HSE Manager.
What will make you successful?
Required Education/ Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, safety management or a related field required.
- Two years of HSE experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or fabrication focused work environment required.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA/OHSA regulations, environmental compliance, workers' compensation processes, and environmental sampling programs within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience supporting and maintaining HSE management systems, including ISO 45001/18001 and ISO 14001 standards, document control processes and compliance-related record keeping.
- Demonstrated experience implementing and supporting critical safety programs, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, fall protection, hazard communication, machine guarding, and mobile equipment safety.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience managing documentation and revisions, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Fluency in English is mandatory. Ability to communicate orally and in writing is a must.
Preferred Skills/ Qualifications:
- CRST or CRSP certification is preferred.
- Ability to speak other languages, ie. Spanish, Vietnamese, Hmong, or Burmese is a plus.
What you will be doing
- Promote and foster a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with company health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor workplace conditions, conduct regular inspections, and identify hazards while coaching employees and leaders on risk recognition and safe work practices.
- Lead incident, accident, and near-miss investigations, determine root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop, maintain, and revise Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments to support safe production and maintenance activities.
- Deliver engaging safety and environmental training programs to employees and leaders in accordance with OSHA/OHSA regulations and company standards.
- Facilitate safety committee activities and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental performance.
- Maintain accurate health, safety, environmental, training, inspection, evacuation, and incident records, including updates within incident management systems.
- Support environmental compliance activities, permit requirements, monitoring programs, regulatory reporting, and adherence to applicable environmental standards.
- Conduct compliance audits and assessments related to OSHA/OHSA, environmental regulations, fire safety, ergonomics, and hazardous material handling, while recommending improvements to reduce risk and enhance workplace safety.
