WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
The HSE Manager is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Health, Safety, and Environmental programs to ensure a safe, compliant, and incident-free workplace. This role drives a proactive safety culture through behavior-based safety practices, risk mitigation, and employee engagement while aligning with Hydro’s global HSE strategy and standards.
- Lead and champion all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) initiatives across the facility
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve HSE programs, policies, and procedures to drive an incident-free workplace
- Ensure full compliance with Hydro standards and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.)
- Oversee environmental compliance programs, including air emissions, wastewater, hazardous waste, and stormwater management
- Establish, monitor, and report on leading and lagging safety indicators to drive continuous improvement
- Lead risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations; implement corrective and preventive actions
- Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs, including:
- Lockout/Tagout/Verify (LOTO)
- Hazard Communication (HAZCOM)
- Mobile equipment safety
- Fall protection
- Molten metal safety
- Contractor safety
- Machine guarding
- Electrical safety
- Confined space entry
- Drive a strong safety culture through coaching, employee engagement, and visible leadership on the production floor
- Partner with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to integrate HSE into all business processes
- Ensure contractors and third-party partners comply with Hydro’s HSE standards and expectations
- Lead emergency preparedness and response planning

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related technical field
- Minimum of 5+ years of progressive HSE experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Demonstrated experience leading HSE programs and driving compliance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certifications (e.g., OSHA, CSP, CIH, CHMM)
- Experience in aluminum, metals, or heavy manufacturing environments
- Experience working within ISO management systems (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001)

Work Environment:
This position operates in both office and manufacturing environments, requiring a strong presence on the production floor. The role involves exposure to varying conditions, including noise, dust, heat, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions. Standard office equipment is also used regularly.
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and use hands to handle objects
Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds
Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Use of required PPE includes, but is not limited to, fire-resistant clothing, safety glasses, metatarsal boots, hearing protection, and hard hats, based on site requirements.
Position Type & Hours:
Full-time, salary exempt position
Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Flexibility required to support off-shift or weekend activities as needed
Travel:
Light travel required
Includes visits to other Hydro facilities, training events, and occasional international travel (1–2 trips annually) for HSE leadership meetings
