SCOPE:

Perform functions related to controls engineering supporting manufacturing, maintenance and engineering departments with controls necessary to achieve desired results.  Designs control systems for industrial material handling solutions. This role has a wide variety of duties, requiring ability to gain full understanding of production processes and exercise judgment to modify controls to effect desired changes.  Plan and prioritize work under general direction with production requirements as primary driver.

 

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to maintain work flow or respond to emergency conditions.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition in accordance with 5 S standards.
  • Requires the ability to perform all duties within limitation of the standard methods and procedures, and in accordance with strict adherence to HSE, quality and productivity requirements.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design and install retrofits to existing systems and supports projects of all sizes
  • Performs diverse, specialized and complex work involving significant accountability and decision-making
  • Prepares schematics and specifications
  • Maintains a progress schedule that meets project milestones
  • Provides documentation and support to the production team
  • Creates Programmable Logical Control (PLC) programs
  • Works closely with the Engineering team to integrate control solutions
  • Implement and validate the system design
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and instrument problems.
  • Based on customer specifications and scope documentation, designs system layouts, schematics, and control devices
  • Creates control sequence of operation documents to ensure that the design meets customer expectations
  • Examine specific problem areas and efficiency opportunities and devise solutions.  Determine process and equipment modifications required to produce desired technological improvements and equipment reliability goals.
  • Follow established protocols, conduct experiments, document results, prepare reports and make presentations to management regarding process and equipment modifications designed to correct designated problems.
  • Setup, editing, networking and troubleshooting of Allen Bradley PLCs (Control Logix, PLC-5, and SLC’s).
  • Machine safety systems/devices (E Stops, Light Curtains, guard interlocks, etc)
  • Reviewing and updating electrical drawings with AutoCad or modelling software

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or minimum of 2 years of experience accompanying an Associate’s degree and/or technical school certificate specifically related to Controls and PLC
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with Allen-Bradley PLC’s (all families), supported by a minimum of 2 years of practical Manufacturing experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in controls engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with Visual Basic and/or HTML/XML

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Industrial Engineering
  • Strong understanding of mechanical components
  • Knowledge of material sciences, metallurgy, aluminum.
  • Knowledge of six sigma and LEAN manufacturing principles.
  • Previous experience with Solidworks.
