What you will be doing
SCOPE:
As a key partner to the Engineering team, you will drive innovation by supporting new product
development and equipment optimization. This role requires a high degree of technical ingenuity to
troubleshoot complex automation systems, fabricate custom fixtures, and implement electrical and
mechanical improvements. You will bridge the gap between engineering theory and practical
manufacturing solutions, requiring considerable creativity and proactive problem-solving.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Collaborate with engineers and scientists to build, modify, and test prototypes and new
manufacturing processes.
· Utilize PLC ladder logic as a diagnostic tool to monitor program flow and identify the root
cause of hardware or sequence failures.
· Connect to PLC processors to observe I/O status and verify signal paths, ensuring a clear path
for troubleshooting before mechanical intervention.
· Lead the construction of electrical panels for in-house projects in accordance with NFPA and
Hydro standards.
· Act as a technical escalation point for the maintenance team to assist with complex mechanical
and electrical repairs.
· Work fluently from verbal instructions, prints, sketches, and schematics while ensuring all work
meets national and local codes.
· Identify and recommend process enhancements to maximize facility efficiencies and 5S
standards.
· Perform other related duties as assigned to maintain work flow or respond to emergency
conditions.
· Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
· Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition in accordance with 5 S standards.
· Requires the ability to perform all duties within limitation of the standard methods and
procedures, and in accordance with strict adherence to HSE, quality and productivity
requirements.
What will make you successful?
COMPETENCIES:
· High proficiency in reading and interpreting existing ladder logic (specifically Allen-Bradley) to
identify fault conditions and verify inputs/outputs.
· Strong ability to bridge the gap between physical electrical components and their digital
representation in a PLC program.
· Competent working with 480VAC (3-phase) and 24VDC low-voltage control circuits.
· Skilled in using trade equipment such as drill presses, band saws, and knockouts; proficient
with precision measuring instruments.
EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
· High school diploma or work equivalent
· Minimum 5 years’ experience within industrial automation environment.
· Ability to troubleshoot electrical and pneumatic systems.
· Working knowledge of AC/DC motors, VFDs, servo system.
· Knowledge of PC's, Windows operating systems.
· Ability to prioritize and handle multiple daily assignments with minimal supervision.
· Working knowledge of PLC's (Allen Bradley).
· Ability to use trade equipment and use all varieties of measuring instruments.
· Excellent problem-solving skills to plan and perform complex installation, repair, modification of
production equipment.
· Manual dexterity to use a wide variety of hand and power tools and equipment, such as a
Knock-out, drill press and band saws.
· Ability to be certified on all maintenance equipment JLG Lifts, scissor lifts, forklifts, etc. to
provide project support running electrical conduit and wire.
· Familiarity with health and safety regulations
· Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
· Knowledge of electrical standards.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
· Associate’s degree in a technical field (Mechatronics, Electronics, or Electromechanical
Engineering).
· Certified Industrial Electrical License (442A/309A).
· Electrical CAD design experience.
· Forklift and overhead crane certifications
· Ethical Conduct
