Role Purpose
The role is responsible for Support the development, qualification, and execution of welding activities for structural components in railway applications (MIG, TIG, FSW). Combines deep technical welding expertise with strong knowledge of standards, materials, and quality requirements specific to the rail sector. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with key railway standards such as EN 15085, and ISO 3834 and ensures compliance with other quality standards, HSE regulations, and customer requirements.
In addition, the automotive sector is to support, in choosing the right technology, cost evaluation and planning from serial equipment as well as guiding, advise and challenge the production sites.
What you will be doing
- Support feasibility assessments for welding during RFQs and project phases
- Develop and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and qualifications
- Define and optimize welding parameters in collaboration with production teams
- Ensure compliance with key standards (EN 15085, ISO 3834) and customer requirements
- Provide on-site technical support and troubleshoot welding issues
- Lead root cause analyses for defects and support continuous improvement
- Define inspection and testing plans and support audits and certifications
- Guide production sites on welding technologies, industrialization, and best practices
What will make you successful
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Materials Science, or related field
- Certified Welding Engineer qualification (IWE/EWE)
- Strong hands-on experience in welding (MIG, TIG, FSW), ideally in rail or aluminium environments
- Knowledge of railway welding standards and quality requirements
- Understanding of aluminium materials (especially 6xxx alloys) and manufacturing processes
- Strong analytical skills and a structured, problem-solving mindset
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams and functions
- Fluent English (German/French is an advantage)
